[8] At that time Lee needed to get just the approval of Wonder publisher Martin Goodman for the personality's approval. In a 1986 job interview, Lee explained in detail his arguments to get over Goodman's objections. [note 2] Goodman ultimately agreed to a Spider-Man trial run in what Lee in many meetings recalled as exactly what would be the final concern of the science-fiction as well as supernatural anthology series Incredible Grownup Fantasy, which was relabelled Fantastic Dream for that single problem, # 15 (cover-dated August 1962, on sale June 5, 1962). [9] Particularly, Lee specified that the fact that it had currently been decided that Fantastic Fantasy would be cancelled after issue # 15 was the only factor Goodman permitted him to utilize Spider-Man. Regardless, Lee obtained Goodman's authorization for the name Spider-Man and also the "regular teenager" concept, and also approached musician Jack Kirby. As comics historian Greg Theakston recounts, Kirby told Lee regarding an unpublished personality on which he had teamed up with Joe Simon in the 1950s, where an orphaned boy dealing with an old couple finds a magic ring that gave him superhuman powers. Lee and Kirby "quickly took a seat for a tale seminar", Theakston creates, and Lee later directed Kirby to expand the character and also draw some pages. [11] Steve Ditko would be the inker.
